The Supreme Court decided on Wednesday to deny House Democrats immediate access to grand jury materials from the Mueller report, giving the Trump administration time to appeal the legal dispute over the records.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to temporarily block an appeal ruling that would force the Department of Justice to release the grand jury testimony to a House committee in Congress.

The Democratic members hoped to gain information from the full report on the Russian interference in the 2016 election, as well as information connected to the grand jury and transcripts to see if the president attempted an impeachable offense during the report.

Previously, the federal appeals courts in March ruled that the full report should be handed over because the need for the House Judiciary Committee investigation outweighed the Justice Department’s intention to keep the testimony secret.

The Supreme Court granted the Justice Department until the first of June to file a formal petition to review the case. The court will then decide whether to extend the order.
