The legislation extended the deadline to August 8 after intending to expire on June 30. Nearly $130 billion of the $660 billion approved for the program is eligible for businesses to obtain through federal grants towards payrolls and additional costs such as rent.
Legislators created the program in March, adding money and additional resources when needed. The Democratic-led House voted on Wednesday to approve the extension, matching what the Republican-led Senate did.
