In a tweet Monday night, President Donald Trump announced that he will be suspending immigration to the United States in response to the administrations concerns over the coronavirus and to “protect jobs.”

The deal is expected to be signed Wednesday, saying “I will be signing my Executive Order prohibiting immigration into our Country today. In the meantime, even without this order, our Southern Border, aided substantially by the 170 miles of new Border Wall & 27,000 Mexican soldiers, is very tight - including for human trafficking!”

Previously, the Trump administration banned travel from China and Europe in efforts to try to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

In addition, Trump told reporters on Tuesday his executive order “will not apply to those entering on a temporary basis.” He added that his goal was to protect Americans from competition from international jobs.

Democrats have slammed Trump for the moving saying it doesn’t do anything to protect Americans from the outbreak.

Democratic front runner, Joe Biden spoke out hours ahead of the announcement “The president needs to stop blaming others and do his job.”

Representative Pramila Jaypal of Washington criticized Trump saying, “Suspending immigration & giving into racism & xenophobia won’t solve our problems.

Senator Tim Kaine and former Vice Presidential candidate for the Clinton campaign called the move a “pathetic attempt to shift blame from his Visible Incompetence to an invisible enemy.”
