“I have just given an order for our National Guard to start the process of withdrawing from Washington, D.C., not that everything is under prefect control,” Trump tweeted.
“They will be going home, but can quickly return, if needed. Far fewer protesters showed up last night than anticipated!”
The action comes as Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser formally requested on Thursday that withdraw all additional federal law enforcement and military presence from D.C., accusing the forces of “inflaming” and “adding to the grievances” of people protesting the death of George Floyd.I have just given an order for our National Guard to start the process of withdrawing from Washington, D.C., now that everything is under perfect control. “The protestors have been peaceful, and last night, the Metropolitan Police Department did not make a single arrest. Therefore, I am requesting that you withdraw all extraordinary law enforcement and military presence from Washington, DC,” Bowser wrote in the letter.
Saturday’s protests were the largest seen in D.C. since they began on May 29. Tens of thousands marched near the National Mall, going long through the night with no curfew. For the third day in a row, no arrests were made on Saturday.
