"We are thrilled to celebrate this momentous occasion in the great city of Jacksonville," RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement. "Not only does Florida hold a special place in President Trump’s heart as his home state, but it is crucial in the path to victory in 2020. We look forward to bringing this great celebration and economic boon to the Sunshine State in just a few short months."
Previously, Trump pulled his acceptance speech from Charolette after Governor Roy Cooper said he couldn’t guarantee a full-scale convention without restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis and Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry both welcomed Trump to host the convention there, expecting to bring in around 50,000 people.
The convention will still take place from August 24-27, with the acceptance speech being held at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Area in Jacksonville, News 4 Jax reports. Official business will still take place in Charolette.
