President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he is pulling the Republican National Convention from North Carolina and seeking another state after North Carolina’s governor Roy Cooper refused to guarantee a full scale convention without coronavirus restrictions.

“Governor Cooper is still in Shelter-In-Place Mode, and not allowing us to occupy the arena as originally anticipated and promised,” Trump said in a series of tweets. “Because of @NC_Governor, we are now forced to seek another State to host the 2020 Republican National Convention.”
Earlier today, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said he could not “guarantee” a full scale convention without coronavirus protections, such as face masks and social distancing. In a letter to Republican officials, he said it’s “ very unlikely” that a full-scale convention could be held.

Trump previously threatened to move the Republican National Convention from Charolette after the governor was still on edge about holding it without restrictions, tweeting Cooper must “guarantee that by August we will be allowed full attendance.”

As of now, there is no back-up state to host the convention. However, governors such as Brian Kemp and Ron DeSantis offered their state, as well as Texas Republican Party Chairman James Dickey said they’d be happy to host the RNC.
