President Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen was released from prison Thursday to serve the rest of his sentence on home confinement, the Wall Street Journal reports.

At around 9 a.m., Cohen walked out of the federal prison he was in and was going home “where he will continue his sentence but in a safer environment,” his lawyer, Jeffrey Levine stated.

Cohen previously tried to have his sentence reduced or serve the rest of his sentence at home after learning about the threat of the novel coronavirus. The court denied his application, stating that his request was “just another effort to inject himself into the news cycle.” However, the Bureau of Prisons has taken sharper precautions to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

CNN first reported that Cohen had to serve a 14-day quarantine before being released.

Cohen was sentenced to prison in December 2018 after being convicted of lying to Congress about his involvement in trying to build a “Trump Tower” in Moscow during the 2016 campaign, as well as giving hush-money to silence women about their alleged affairs with Trump.
