Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive Representative from New York, will co-chair a panel advising presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden, on climate policy in attempts to unite the party.

In comments to a CBS affiliate KLAS-TV, Joe Biden said that Ocasio-Cortez was one of six policy panels. AOC will co-chair with former secretary of state, John Kerry.

In response to uniting Bernie Sanders supporters, Biden said “We’ve made some some changes, we’ve listened to the Bernie supporters, and, you know, for example, we have congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez, she is on one of the panels as well,” Biden said. “And so I think we’re going to have a very united party.”

"She made the decision with members of the Climate Justice community — and she will be fully accountable to them and the larger advocacy community during this process," spokeswoman Lauren Hitt said in an email.

Hitt said added that Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., "believes the movement will only be successful if we continue to apply pressure both inside and outside the system," and shares that "this is just one element of the broader fight for just policies.”

Biden has proposed a climate plan that includes $1.7 trillion federal investment in to the country’s “clean energy future and environmental justice.” that will be paid by Donald Trump’s tax incentives.
