The New York Times reported on Tuesday that the White House may step back from holding the briefings in weeks to come.

The Times reports that it’s unclear whether another group will replace the task force, but the task force will gradually stop.

Mike Pence told reporters on Tuesday that his administration is having “conversations” to wind it down.

“We’re having conversations about that, and about what the proper time is for the task force to complete its work and for the ongoing efforts to take place on an agency-by-agency level,” Pence told reporters.

He added, “The President stood up the White House Coronavirus Task Force to marshal -- in January — to marshal a national response. And as I’ve said before, as we continue to practice social distancing and states engage in safe and responsible reopening plans, I truly believe — and the trend lines support it — that we could be in a very different place."

White House Press Secretary, Kayleigh McEnamy tweeted on Thursday that the White House will continue to involve medical experts.

In a series of tweets Wednesday, Trump said that the task forces will continue indefinitely, saying Mike Pence “has done a fantastic job of bringing together vastly high complex resources that have set a high standard for others to follow in the future.”

He adds that ventilators are being produced in the thousands, saying there’s “many to spare.”

In addition, he shares that calls with the last four governors have been “conclusively strong,” and because of them the Task Force will “continue indefinitely with it’s focus on SAFETY & OPENING UP OUR COUNTRY AGAIN.”

He said that members may be added or removed but the focus will be on vaccines and therapeutics.
